BRILLIANT IDEAS

This page is for ideas that TBI'ers have come up with to cope with deficits that we have since our brain injuries.

To some of you these may be simple ideas, but believe me these strategies have helped us in many ways to deal with the problems that we have in our daily lives.

Some of these ideas may help you and some of them may seem to make things more confusing for you. The idea here is to try some of these strategies and see if they work for you. Or maybe adapt some of them so they will fit in YOUR life style.

If you have any ideas, please don't hesitate to write to me and let me know so I can put your ideas on this page too!

This was just an idea that sort of happened on the TBINET.org list that I'm on and thanks to Sharon Fortenberry this page is a start of GREAT POSSIBILITIES! I hope to see it grow all the time! (we might even get our own Bulletin Board for THIS page so you can send your responses to any of these ideas that you've tried out)! HHMMMM!

HAVE FUN! And ENJOY!

KITCHEN

I use 2 timers in the kitchen. When boiling water or steaming veggies, I set the timer at 10 to 15 minutes. (about how long I think it may take to start to boil).

When that timer goes off, I come back and check it again and continue setting at 10 to 15 minute intervals. Depending on what I'm cooking of course! The timer is loud enough that if I'm in the back room I can still hear it!

P.S. Always remember to turn the burner off BEFORE you take the pot off and you'll never have to worry about leaving your burner on.

REMINDERS

If you're forever forgetting appointments and things to do each day like I do then you might consider something very simple like a DRY ERASE BOARD.

I got mine at Wal-Mart for only a few dollars. I use the black marker for the days of the month and try to use red or another bright color to put appointments and times on each day.

I have one in my office on the door (as it's always open) and the other one on the wall on the left of the back door so I can check it on the way out of the house.

I also have a small monthly calendar that lays open flat on my coffee table as a reminder too. I make sure that all my appointments are written in and this one is handy especially if I'm on the phone. And it's small enough that I can take it to my erase board and other calendars and write in my appointments.

There are also some good Calendars that you can download from these sites!

Page Minder

Do you have trouble remembering things? When to take your meds, or that you've put some laundry in the washer? Or how about when you're cleaning the house and you've gotten distracted by something else?

Well, these are just a few things that Page Minder can help you with!

It's a service to help give you a bit more "CONTROL" over your own life again! Just call them up and tell them that you need a reminder in an hour to see if you're done with your cleaning, or when to take your meds, or maybe you just need a reminder saying "Are you ON TRACK with what you were supposed to be doing today?"

If you have a pager service in your area, a pager that has 2 or 4 line compatibility and receives "TEXT MESSAGES", and your service has an 800 #, you can use Page Minder!

Here's their web page!

Just Click HERE To Enter!

Or give them a call at: 888-882-7787

For a small fee each month you can get help with those things that you keep forgetting. And with Page Minder, you can let THEM remind you instead of notes, or phone calls from family or friends.

It's a way to be a bit more INDEPENDENT, and hopefully keep you "ON TRACK" a bit more. You may find that you're actually getting things DONE instead of finding that the hours have dwindled away, and you still haven't done what you started out to do for that day.

NOTE: - (Please make sure that you ask your pager service about "UNLIMITED" pages so you won't be billed for more each month if you run over a certain limit).

KEYS

I made my own key ring with suede cord and beads all macrame'd into a key chain about 18" long.

I also have some pepper spray and a loud high pitched siren (about 3" long) that's battery operated! They are also attached to the same main ring, just not on the same key ring as my keys. (I have 3 smaller rings attached to a larger main key ring).

I can use the pepper spray container (about 4" long in a leather case) and slide it into my pocket or put it into the side pocket on my purse. They're too big to lose and although the beads are plastic they still make a slight noise if I've got them in my pocket so I know they're there!

This key ring only takes a little while to make depending on how long/short and how many beads you want, and you can make it any color that you like!
